The FDA approved Invisalign in 2000. Since getting approved by the FDA in 2000, invisible plastic aligners, Invisalign, have become a game changer in the way kids and adults alike choose to straighten their teeth. Although traditional metal braces are still recommended for those who have significant problems with jaw alignment, Invisalign is a great option for those who want to transform crooked, crowded teeth into an amazing smile.
How Does Invisalign Work?
If your orthodontist decides you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, you’ll go through a quick and painless process to obtain your aligners. First, your orthodontist will take photos and impressions of your teeth that they analyze and send off to the company to make your custom aligners.
Within two weeks, you’ll receive your first box of aligners that your orthodontist will insert and examine to ensure they fit correctly. Depending on your unique case, you’ll wear one set of aligners for one or two weeks, discard them, and repeat the process with the remaining aligners in your box. You’ll see your orthodontist regularly to track your process and make necessary changes. You’ll continue this process (about a year for teens and two years for adults on average) until your treatment is complete.
What Can I Do with Invisalign?
One of the biggest advantages of wearing Invisalign is that you don’t have to alter your lifestyle as much as you would with traditional braces. While using Invisalign, you should do the following:
Eat What You Want
Since you can take out your aligners at any time, no food is off limits during treatment. Chew gum, eat caramels, and enjoy popcorn, apples, and other crunchy or gooey snacks that are off limits with traditional braces.
Smile A Lot
Invisalign aligners are completely clear. You shouldn’t be self-conscious when wearing them because nobody will be the wiser.
Clean Your Aligners
Because you’ll wear each set of aligners for 22 hours a day, you’ll need to put in the effort to take good care of them. That means brushing them with water and a soft toothbrush, soaking them in denture or retainer solution, or soaking them in a homemade water and vinegar solution. These cleaning methods remove food and bacterial buildup that can stain or damage your aligners.
What Can’t I Do with Invisalign?
Wear Them While Eating
Eating or drinking anything but water while wearing your aligners is off limits. Biting into food could break your aligners while drinking coffee or dyed sodas can permanently stain them. For best results, put your aligners in your carrying case, eat or drink what you want, then brush your teeth thoroughly before re-inserting them.
Forget to Clean Them
Invisalign are designed to be invisible. Don’t defeat the purpose by forgetting to clean them regularly. Neglected aligners become cloudy, stained, and can trap bacteria that is harmful to your mouth. Clean your aligners regularly as directed by your orthodontist.
Treat Them Gently
Invisalign is strong enough to move your teeth, but carelessly grabbing or pulling them off can cause them to bend or break. Brushing your aligners with regular toothpaste can also damage them. Treat your aligners with care so they can do the job right.
If you’re interested in finding out more about Invisalign, make an appointment today with the skilled team of orthodontists at Amazing Smiles Orthodontics of Forest Hills, Brooklyn, and Long Island. We offer Invisalign treatment in addition to all kinds of orthodontic services.

Braces are often associated with teenagers, but they’re becoming very popular with adults as well. For adults who have a smile that they’ve always been dissatisfied with, braces represent a chance to correct years of frustration while improving your oral health.
Why Would An Adult Need Braces?
Adults need braces for similar reasons that adolescent patients do. Yet, if you didn’t have orthodontic treatment as a child, your issues may have gotten worse over the years, as you have aged, you are experiencing symptoms such as tooth decay and headaches. You may also find it difficult to keep your teeth and gums properly cleaned and may be at greater risk for developing gum disease.
A few common reasons adults get braces include:
- Crooked teeth
- Misaligned jaw
Are Braces for Adults Different Than Braces for Kids?
Braces for adults work in the same way they do for younger patients, but your treatment may last longer. Since your teeth are set and are no longer growing, they take more pressure – and often more time – to move. As an adult, you may wear braces for a period ranging from 18 months to three years.
Although the results may take longer, if you’ve lived with dental issues that you’ve always wanted to change, it’s worth exploring your options.
What Choices Do You Have for Adult Braces?
It’s important to choose an orthodontist that has options to fit your needs and preferences. Such as:
- Traditional Metal Braces: Stainless steel brackets are applied to the front of your teeth, and adjusted using a small wire that’s connected to each bracket
- Ceramic Braces: Also known as clear braces, function like traditional metal braces but are made from a material that matches the color of your teeth.
- Invisalign®: This set of aligners is almost invisible and can be removed when you eat and brush your teeth, which allows you to not have dietary restrictions that are associated with traditional braces.
- Lingual Braces – Similar to regular metal braces, but the brackets are attached to the back of each tooth rather than the front, making them less noticeable
- Self-ligating Braces – A small slide mechanism is used instead of bands of ties, that create the appearance of less metal.
How to Decide Which Adult Braces Option is Right for You?
Your orthodontist will explain your options to you, including information about whether any choices are likely to be more effective than others. In addition to this recommendation, price and appearance may also be considerations. As an adult, you may opt for a less noticeable type of braces, such as Invisalign or ceramic braces.
If you’re an adult who would like to learn whether braces are a good option for you and determine which types may be appropriate, make an appointment today for a consultation with Amazing Smiles Orthodontics. We’ve taken care of our patients’ smiles and oral health for more than 30 years and pride ourselves on being committed to providing high-quality, affordable care.

Retainers are a popular orthodontic treatment that provides many benefits.
What Are Retainers?
A retainer is a custom-made orthodontic device that fits over the top of the teeth and mouth. It’s made of plastic or plastic and metal, and it’s very common for kids and adults to have to wear a retainer.
Why Would Someone Need One?
Retainers are often used for the following reasons:
- After you get your braces off – A retainer can help your teeth stay in their new positions. Especially for kids who are still growing, a retainer helps control teeth that could shift as you grow. Some people have to wear a retainer all day and then only at night, while others have to wear it only at night.
- To close a space between your teeth or to move only one tooth – Since retainers can do a good job in these cases, they can help you avoid having to wear braces.
- To help with a medical problem – Retainers can help correct conditions such as tongue thrust, which causes your tongue to come through your teeth when you talk. It can also help with temporomandibular disorder (TMD), a disorder that’s usually caused by teeth that don’t fit together as they should when your jaws are closed. Retainers can also help keep your mouth from closing completely at night so you don’t grind your teeth (bruxism).
What Are Signs That You May Need One?
You may need a retainer if you have braces and your teeth have slightly shifted. Your orthodontist may also recommend them to prevent the chance that shifting will occur.
You may also benefit from wearing a retainer if you have gaps in between your teeth, overlapping teeth or crooked teeth. And if you grind your teeth or have “bite” problems, meaning your teeth don’t fit together properly when your jaw is shut, you may also need a retainer.
What Are the Benefits of Wearing a Retainer?
Recommendations now suggested by the American Association of Orthodontists is to wear a retainer for the rest of your life once orthodontic treatment is completed and at night – after initial stabilization period of full time wear. The following are some benefits you’ll receive when wearing a retainer:
- More comfortable and less bulky than many other orthodontic treatments
- Maintains positive changes achieved by braces
- Effective for treating a wide variety of issues
- Easy to wear and clean
- Less noticeable than other treatments
- Custom-designed for your teeth and mouth
If you’d like to find out whether a retainer could improve your smile, make an appointment today with Amazing Smiles Orthodontics PC. We have convenient offices located in NYC boroughs and have provided high quality, affordable orthodontic care throughout the New York metro area for more than 30 years.

Dentists and orthodontists are similar in various ways. Each has the necessary expertise to give you a dazzling smile. But while each can treat your pearly whites, dentists and orthodontists specialize in different areas of oral health. Choosing the right one depends on your unique circumstances.
What Do Dentists Focus On?
Dentists must earn a bachelor’s degree before they enter dental school. Dental school consists of a four-year doctoral degree program. The dental student graduates with a doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S.) or doctor of dental medicine (D.M.D.) distinction.
A dentist usually focuses on the following dental services:
- Cleanings (performed by dental hygienists who assist the dentist)
- Tooth extractions
- Filling cavities
- Making models for dentures or bridgework
- Root canals
- Tooth whitening
- Gum care
Essentially, a dentist is your first choice to perform routine, overall dental care. When you have dental issues outside the scope of general dentistry, your dentist will refer you to an orthodontist.
What Do Orthodontists Focus On?
Like dentists, orthodontists must earn a bachelor’s degree and either a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree. However, orthodontist students continue their education for another three years in a residency program at a university affiliated with the American Dental Association. After a successful residency, the student will be eligible to seek board certification from the American Board of Orthodontics.
Unlike dentists that specialize in complete oral care, orthodontists specialize in correcting tooth and jaw alignment problems using non-surgical techniques. Some orthodontic procedures include:
- Diagnosing overbites and underbites
- Attaching braces or retainers to straighten crooked, crowded, or overly gapped teeth
- Overseeing the proper use of Invisalign
- Attaching wires and other corrective appliances for jaw misalignments
Orthodontists give their patients confidence by restoring a winning smile, but by correcting jaw or tooth alignments a patient can avoid tooth decay, get relief for strained jaw muscles from chewing, and avoid gum disease.
Should I See a Dentist or Orthodontist or Both?
It’s important for everyone to see a dentist yearly for an overall checkup and a hygienist twice a year for cleanings. If your teeth are gums are in good shape, a yearly dentist visit will keep you on the road to good oral health. During your exam, your dentist will check your x-rays for signs that your teeth are moving out of alignment and to look for cavities. The dentist will visually inspect your teeth and check for loose fillings. Any minor problems can be fixed during the exam or at a follow-up appointment. Cleanings are important because the hygienist removes harmful plaque buildup from your teeth and inspects your gums for signs of periodontal disease.
If your dentist notices problems with your tooth alignment of discovers that your jaw is misaligned, they will refer you to a trusted orthodontist to correct the problems. Some dental practices employ both dentists and orthodontists, but many maintain separate practices. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that you first consult with an orthodontist at age 7. Also, you do not need a referral from you general dentist for an orthodontist.

About Invisalign: Invisalign Teen is a smart choice for young people who want straighter teeth and a nicer smile— but who don’t want the clunky appearance and other restrictions that can come with metal braces. Invisalign® consists of clear, removable aligners that are tailor-made for teens. Each set of aligners is replaced with a new set every two weeks. Gradually teeth begin moving in place. Invisalign can effectively treat mild to severe issues, including overbites and underbites, teeth overcrowding and gaps between teeth. At Amazing Smiles Orthodontics, we can treat most people requesting Invisalign, teens and/or adults.
Invisalign is considerably less obtrusive and noticeable than metal braces. Also, the aligners are generally more comfortable and less irritating than metal wires and brackets. Since best corded beard trimmers are removable, you can also play sports without worrying. Also, there are no food restrictions with dentists Gold Coast since you can remove the aligners before eating; just be sure to immediately replace them when finished. The removable aligners also make it easy to brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene. Here are some good reasons to floss.

As an orthodontist, I meet a lot of moms who bring their kids in for Invisalign Teen treatments and consultations, or who themselves are getting their teeth straightened. Many confide that when their child doesn’t feel good about his or her appearance it affects every other area of their lives— which is what ultimately leads them to my office. Let us bring back that smile of yours, contact orthodontist The Woodlands.
They tell me they want their kids to have a strong sense of self-esteem and not be attached to what others think and say about them; yet, as mothers, they bear witness to some unfortunate realities such as teen bullying and hearing that their children have been taunted for looking different, not fitting in, or having low confidence.
This is consistent with mounting research I have seen over the years. For example, in a study recently released by Align Technologies (makers of Invisalign and Invisalign Teen), over two thousand mothers where interviewed about whether their teens have it “tougher” than they did growing up. Resoundingly they said yes, with 64% saying it’s more challenging for them to feel safe at school, and 61% saying they are more likely to have to deal with bullies.
When it comes to price, the cost of dental implants in Beverly Hills 90210 would be much higher than in Brooklyn.
So this Mother’s Day I want to give moms across Brooklyn, Cedarhurst, Forest Hills and Rosedale one less thing to worry about. Amazing Smiles is offering Invisalgin Teen at an affordable, discounted price with $500 off when you commit to a treatment plan for your teen from now until June 1, 2016. And $750 off of Invisalign for mothers who wish to get their teeth straightened as well. No need to worry about quality of care either; our office is a Top 1% “Elite Status” Invisalign and Clear Braces provider.
As said by a Chandler Dentist, invisalign Teen is one of the easiest, most convenient and discrete ways to straighten teeth. The clear aligners are even removable for prom photos, spare rib eating or high contact sports. And with our state-of-the-art technology, you’re assured of the most comfortable and efficient processes available. With offices in Mill Basin, Brooklyn; Forest Hills and Rosedale, Queens; and Cedarhurst, Long Island, we are conveniently located. We give pleasures to brides with Bridal Collection pearls matching them with pearly white teeth.

Every salesperson knows that whether you’re in person or on the phone with a client, you’ll have increased success if you’re smiling. Smiling makes you look better and helps you project more positive energy overall. It’s where that phrase comes from— “smile in your voice.” A smile transcends your appearance. It’s like fairy dust. It’s hard to not like someone who is genuinely smiling at you, or who seems to be smiling all of the time. It is more likely for someone to remember being told that you have to go through proteinpromo first to use your musclefood code, if who’s saying it has a smile on their face. Let the smiles take over your Life Smiles Dentistry.
I have read studies stating that in the long run smiling can affect your health, your social life and even your outlook. There was a famous study published by Psychologist Robert Zajonic in the late 1980s that concluded people feel better after they make the smiling facial expression, even if it’s contrived.
Plus it’s reciprocal— the more you smile, the more you feel good, the more good you attract, the more you have to smile about. It’s fair to say that the quality of your life can be measured in part by how much you smile.
As an orthodontist at Apopka dentist, I can tell you firsthand how lives are transformed by an improved smile. When I say “improved,” I mean that patients say they feel more confident about their appearance so they are prone to smile wider and smile more often— revealing teeth they are proud to show off.
But what if you don’t like the way you look when you smile? What if you’re not happy with your teeth so you’ve gotten in the habit of restraining your smile… not allowing full-on unencumbered happiness to take over your face?
How might this inhibition be affecting your life?
It’s hard to say exactly, but I would venture to guess that holding back from smiling would significantly affect your life. Google ‘relation between smiling and happiness’ and read the results. You may also find that Ron Gutman makes a compelling case in his Ted Talk titled “The Hidden Power of Smiling.”
With all that said, is there anything you don’t like about your smile? Are your teeth discolored or crooked? Are they too long or too short? Too much gum… or too little? Nowadays, pretty much anything you don’t like can be altered by a dentist, periodontist or an orthodontist like myself.
It is my greatest pleasure as a professional when I’m able to give my patients straight teeth worth smiling about. There is nothing more pleasing when they come in at the end of treatment and say, “I can’t stop smiling.” For me, that’s what it’s all about. That’s when I know I’ve helped to improve more than their looks, but their quality of life as well.
In Asia, we are now extending our services in which Singapore has now dental services island wide program. All of the best dentists in Asia goes to islands where civilization is behind from them. Unfortunate kids and people can be treated in terms of tooth problem. It is a very good program, and I want you to support us.

In this age of “the selfie,” it’s no surprise to anyone that looking good isn’t just for celebrities anymore. Whether it’s via Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or your choice of social media, most people have an Internet presence these days— compounding their desire to look their very best. And while looking great has become increasingly important for people of all ages, it seems that teens, especially, are in the spotlight.
We at Digital Dentistry at Southpoint in Durham treat each patient’s case on an individual basis, recognizing that the best dental care begins with communication. First we listen to our patient; then we provide caring responses; and finally we work together, with the patient, to form an individualized dental plan that is right for them.
In fact, a new Teen Confidence survey conducted by Kelton and commissioned by the makers of Invisalign Teen® clear aligners has uncovered some dramatic statistics— including the fact that 40 percent of social-media using teens feel that their appearance is judged more closely on social media, with 56 percent indicating that they worry about their looks most days. And when it comes to looking good and feeling confident, it seems that one’s smile plays a key role:
–> 96% of US teens who are not satisfied with their smile are insecure about their appearance overall.
–> 30% of US teens who are not satisfied with their appearance are most self-conscious about their teeth.
–> 47% of those who post selfies on social media first consider whether their smile “looks good.”
Traditional braces can exacerbate the problem
The study additionally reveals that:
–> 92% of US teens who have never worn metal braces say that wearing brackets would keep them from fitting in.
–> 25% believe they would be teased.
–> 41% say it is “embarrassing” for most teens to wear metal braces.
Invisalign Clear aligners to the rescue
Ultimately, of course, accepting—even embracing– one’s unique appearance and inner beauty is what will keep you happy and sane throughout life. With that said, however, if there is something you can do to improve your appearance and will give you a boost of confidence and self-esteem, why not? For many teens the answer, increasingly, is Invisalign Clear Aligners. A solid 47% of Invisalign teen users surveyed said they had a “boost” in self esteem even during the treatment process; and only 8% said that wearing Invisalign would be “embarrassing.” And that’s no wonder.
Invisalign and Invisalign Teen aligners use a series of virtually invisible and removable aligners that gradually move teeth over time. Users have no food restrictions, no interference with sports or other activities, and teeth get straightened without most people even knowing they are in treatment.
